What personal data I collect and why I collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms
I may contact you directly or through a third-party service provider regarding services you have signed up from me, such as necessary to deliver transactional or service-related communications. I may also contact you with offers for additional services I think you’ll find valuable if you give me consent, or where allowed based upon legitimate interests. You don’t need to provide consent as a condition to purchase our goods or services. These contacts may include:
- Text (SMS) messages
- Telephone calls
- Automated phone calls or text messages.
You may also update your subscription preferences with respect to receiving communications from me and/or my partners by completing my contact form or sending me a direct email to [email protected].
If I collect information from you in connection with a co-branded offer, it will be clear at the point of collection who is collecting the information and whose privacy policy applies. In addition, it will describe any choice options you have in regards to the use and/or sharing of your personal data with a co-branded partner, as well as how to exercise those options.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our home page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
I use multiple web analytics tools provided by service partners such as Google Analytics to collect information about how you interact with my website or mobile applications, including what pages you visit, what site you visited prior to visiting my website, how much time you spend on each page, what operating system and web browser you use and network and IP information. I use the information provided by these tools to improve my services. These tools place persistent cookies in your browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit our website. Each cookie cannot be used by anyone other than the service provider (ex: Google for Google Analytics). The information collected from the cookie may be transmitted to and stored by these service partners on servers in a country other than the country in which you reside. Though information collected does not include personal data such as name, address, etc., the information collected is used and shared by these service providers in accordance with their individual privacy policies.
Who I share your data with
I may share your personal data with affiliated companies, third parties with which I have partnered to allow you to integrate their services into my own services, and with trusted third party service providers as necessary for them to perform services on my behalf, such as:
- Serving advertisements
- Conducting contests or surveys
- Performing analysis of my services and customer demographics
- Communicating with you, such as by way email or survey delivery
- Customer relationship management.
I only share your personal data as necessary for any third-party to provide the services as requested or as needed on my behalf. These third parties (and any subcontractors) are subject to strict data processing terms and conditions and are prohibited from utilizing, sharing or retaining your personal data for any purpose other than as they have been specifically contracted for (or without your consent).
How long I retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Changes in my Privacy Policy
I reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If I decide to change my Privacy Policy, I will post those changes to this Privacy Policy and any other places I deem appropriate, so that you are aware of what information I collect, how I use it, and under what circumstances, if any, I disclose it. If I make material changes to this Privacy Policy, I will notify you here, by email, or by means of a notice on our home page, at least thirty (30) days prior to the implementation of the changes.
Data Protection Authority
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA) and believe I maintain your personal data subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you may direct questions or complaints to [email protected].
Do not Track Notifications
Some browsers allow you to automatically notify websites you visit not to track you using a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no consensus among industry participants as to what “Do Not Track” means in this context. Like many websites and online services, I currently do not alter my practices when I receive a “Do Not Track” signal from a visitor’s browser. To find out more about “Do Not Track,” you may wish to visit www.allaboutdnt.com.
Where I send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Contact information
If you have any questions, concerns or complaints about my Privacy Policy, practices or services, you may contact my Office of the DPO by email at [email protected].
I will respond to all requests, inquiries or concerns within thirty (30) days.
